Coimbra Library

Since 1537 the university occupied this building. Over 4 centuries this was the Royal Palace in Coimbra, the construction was ordered by King John V. The palace was regularly inhabited by successive monarchs between 12th-15th centuries. This picture is the library, the floor is white & grey limestone and the bookcases and wall decorations are made of wood, carved and painted with gold leaf. The Coimbra university and the capes were the inspiration for the Harry Potter books, T K Roling, lived in Portugal.
