At Coimbra students to wear black & white with a cape. It is not mandatory to wear this uniform, but most students do. All students wear the cape & the tradition is that the cape must not be washed because this washes away learning.  These pictures show the formal uniform. The picture with me includes Louis, a 3rd year Economics student. The other picture is a student working on his Masters in Archaeology.
