Porto train station

The train station has beautiful ceramic tiles on the walls, of biblical stories, battle scenes, agriculture and grapes grown in the Douro valley and wine being made in Porto. There are 5000 tiles. The Moors contributed the azulejos, or painted ceramic tiles, they were everywhere, on walls, ceilings, floors and exteriors of buildings. many were decorative but they also helped regulate temperature. After the Moors were driven out, their tiles remained and the Portuguese began making their own tiles. Typically azulejos are represented as white tiles with blue prints.
